    Hi there and Merry Xmas! :)

    About two weeks ago I started to experience problems opening firefox browser despite the wireless connection showing as connected. I was having to open IE/diagnose connection problems which showed layered service provider LSP i386p problem and go through that procedure every time.

    I followed steps outlined in sticky Malware bytes did find rogue system tool and unfortunately I forget to toggle system restore at that pont. I then encountered more problems with newly downloaded comodo firewall - not being sure which processes to allow and which not. The next day (22nd Dec) task manager showing lots of movement in processes. I was unable to connect wirelessly or wired, a window informing me of problem with IP settings. I deleted commodo firewall and installed PC tools which seems a lot more user friendly. I have uninstalled cybersitter as it seemed to have become infected and was being suspended automatically on start up (had a cross through it).
    I restored System to 3rd December (before the initial problem started) this has resolved connection problem . I have run emisoft antimalware scan which seems to have picked up a lot of the spyware, I toggled system restore after that. I also ran Trojan Hunter which found other trojans (hidec.exe) in the combofix.exe folder although from reading posts on the internet this may not necessarily be spyware. I have rerun the recommended processes (nothing found by malware bytes or superantispyware) and am attaching logs.

    There still seem to be problems:

    Avira antivirus was corrupted and I uninstalled it, however I am unable to get rid of icon in task bar or stop the process running via Task Manager
    applications are still freezing
    despite downloading java not showing as running in system tray
    pc tools firewall reported some inteference whilst loading
    Computer very slow even though I can hear the hard disk whirring away like crazy.

    Any help gratefully appreciated.:)

    Hi there and welcome. I am currently reviewing your logs and will get back to you with a set of instructions in the next post I make to you.

    hidec.exe is just one of a great many files/programs used by ComboFix.
    We will deal with this.

    SUPERantispyware is outdated but we will get to that soon.

    Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus 8.0 <--- Uninstall this unless it is paid for.

    What are all these logs such as the below seen on your C:\ drive?
    C:\LOG10.log

    Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    SecCenter::
    {AD166499-45F9-482A-A743-FDD3350758C7}
    Driver::
    AntiVirSchedulerService
    Avira AntiVir Scheduler
    Avira AntiVir Guard
    File::
    c:\windows\003359_.tmp
    c:\program files\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\avgnt.exe
    c:\program files\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\sched.exe
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\avipbb.sys
    C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\avguard.exe
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\avgntflt.sys
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\avgntmgr.sys
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\avgntdd.sys
    Folder::
    C:\RECYCLER(2)
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Java(2)
    C:\Documents and Settings\Matthew\Application Data\SUPERAntiSpyware(2).com
    C:\spywarebegone
    c:\documents and settings\Matthew\Application Data\Avira
    c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\Avira
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avira(2)
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avira(3)
    Registry::
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "avgnt"=-

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    How are things running for you now?

    Hi Kestrel

    Many many thanks for your help :) I appreciate that guys/girls :confused like you give your time and skills so freely. So I am attaching requested logs. The good news is that avira has disappeared from the tool bar although it is still as a program. With MG tools an error message came up:
    MBRcheck.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

    In answer to your query about all the logs in the C drive, I have no idea - they span a couple of few years though.

    Things seem to be running better. If you have any more advice please let me know. I may be out of computer contact till 2nd but will get back to you after that and again much appreciate your help :)

    You mean the system tray?
    What do you mean?
    You can delete those, it will not do any harm.
    Go to start > run > type in services.msc and hit enter. Do you see the below service?

    Avira AntiVir Guard (AntiVirService)

    If so right click and stop it.

    Also run this:
    Avira AntiVir Uninstall Package & RegistryCleaner (choose appropriate version)

    Now, what problems remain if any?

    whoops!
    Yes Avira is no longer appearing on system tray but it is listed under programs (start/programs). I tried the services.msc action but "stop" was greyed out and the only option was "start".
    I will try the avira uninstall link as suggested.
    Do you think using pc tools firewall and trojanhunter guard is the best way to protect computer?

    Thanks again

    You mean from the start menu "All programs"? Or do you mean in add and remove programs? If it appears as an icon once you click start then simply right click and delete.

    Trojan Hunter is not an antivirus. It's wise to have both a firewall and an anti virus. Also good to keep both Malware Bytes and SUPERantispyware

    You're welcome. :)

    Kes is under the weather, so I will give you the final cleanup ......pay attention to the How to Protect Yourself link:

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
        for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
