Problems with new burner........

My CD/DVD drive recently died on me so I replaced it with a Sony Model# AW-Q170A DVD/RW. It plays audio cds fine and it plays dvds just fine, but here is the problem:
I have pictures from my camera saved in my harddrive in various locations (My Documents, My Pictures, etc.) I used to be able to burn them to a CD with no problem, by selecting what I wanted burned, and clicking Send To. Now when I click Send To, instead of there being (in the drop down menu) a name/date of the CD that is in the tray, it says:
"shortcut to CD drive." It used to say something like "August 08, 05" or something to that effect (whatever the CD had been named by the computer). When I click on this I get an error box that says "D:\ not accessible - Incorrect function." Something is definitely not right. I'm wondering if I have the incorrect driver installed , or if I need to search for another one. I always thought that XP figured this out automatically. Any help getting this back to normal and running would be greatly appreciated. By the way, Device Manager shows that the device is working properly.
I hope I have included everything that is going to be helpful to you. Please let me know if there is anything I left out that might help. Hopefully this will be an easy fix.

You've probably already done this, but open My Computer, right click the DVD-RW drive, select Properties, then click on the Recording tab. Make sure the box for "Enable recording on this drive" is checked. You can also try a different burning program just to see if the drive will burn; this can tell you if it's a Windows problem, or a problem with the drive itself. Here's a couple free burning apps:
