Problems with OE

Lev, I went to the two sites you suggest. In the basic repair kit, I had seen that before and had already deleted the temp files and compacted. It did nothing this time. I reregistered OE as he said and then attempted to reregister the libraries as he said.
The regsvr32 urlmon.dll loaded fine, and so did ...shdocvw.dll.
...mshtml.dll "Was loaded. But the dllRegisterServer entry point was not found. this file cannot be registered."
...browseul.dll and ...msjava.dll received thius message: "Load failed. The specified module could not be found."

None the less, I tried OE again, to no avail.

I looked at the MS download but it is for Ver.6 and I have Ver. 7. As usual, the thing was damn near unintelligible. I have not as yet done anything with it.

I realize malware is a possibility, but I just have to think it's more than a coincidence that when I "cleaned up" some files and deleted some things that the cleaner programs found not needed, that's when my problem began. I suspect I damaged the system in some way. Also, everything else about the computer seems to be working OK, including all aspects of IE.

USAF, I am embarrassed to say I don't know how to download eMail using IE. I will look around and see what I can find about doing it.

This just feels like falling into a bottomless pit.

I really, really appreciate the help and concern you three have shown. I hope we can lick this thing yet. And your presence makes me feel "less alone on an island."

Hi! I'm having similar problems with OE. I'll be in the middle of typing an e-mail, and when I try to send it, the system just gives me a pop-up message, saying there was a problem and my message cannot be sent. If I try to save it, I get another error message saying there was an error and it can't be saved. I also can't send or delete anything. If I close OE and reopen it again, it's fine...for a while. Then the process starts all over again.

I attempted the same potential "fixes" listed above, to no avail, but when I tried to reregister the libraries, I got the exact same two messages as you:
"MSHTML.DLL was loaded but the DLLRegisterServer entry point was not found. This file cannot be registered."
"Load Library ("msjava.dll") failed - The specified module could not be found."

I ran sfc /scannow, and when it finished, it told me to insert the Windows XP Professional CD #2 into the drive because it needed to reinstall some of the DLL files, but I don't have Windows Professional edition. I have Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 with Microsoft Office Small Business Edition with BCM. When I inserted these CD's, I got an error message, saying I inserted the wrong disk.

I have IE 7 and OE 6.

I noticed that when I opened up OE this morning, I started getting duplicates of all my e-mails.

I'm also a novice at this and at the end of my rope. I just wanted to let you know you're not alone out there.

(I'm wondering if it's got something to do with the Media Center Edition of XP.)

When I tried to go to the next eMail (or any other new eMails) I got an error message, "OE encountered and unexpected problem while displaying this message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space." I exited the OE program, then opened it again, and could read all of the messages.

FWIW, I ran Ad-Aware yesterday as well as Registry mechanic and "Crud Cleaner." I then ran defrag which was fine and showed I have 78% free space.

Okay, I just found this post and, once again, I got the same exact message about checking my computer for low memory or low disk space. We may be on to something here.

My head is starting to hurt from all the attempted fixes and resulting failures. So far, we're two for two in terms of getting the same error messages.

I also ran Registry Mechanic and had previously run Ad-Aware, but I think the problems started before this. I've recently installed a trial, but full, version of Tune Up Utilities 2007, which seems like a great program, but it still hasn't helped with my OE problems. :cry

I have moved your posts to there own thread, as you will get a much better response here than "Stacking" on another thread
