    Hello,
I have just recently begun to have a problem with my recycle bin icon not showing as having items it it right after I select to delete them.

I have go to Personalize > change desktop icons and tried fixing it that way but it is still occurring. I did notice that if I right click on an empty place on the desktop and select refresh then it will show that there are items in the recycle bin. Any ideas as to why the recycle bin does not show that there are items in it after having deleted something unless I select refresh?

    TIA

    Lisa

    Try this....

In personalize >> Change desktop icons >> select the Recycle Bin icon and click on Restore Default (even if it already is).

If unsuccessfull delete the Hidden "IconCache.db" file, under C:\Users\(Your username)\AppData\Local\ and reboot your computer

I will try your 2nd suggestion (since I have already tried the first one before posting) and let you know if that resolves the problem.

    Thanks!

    Hello Again,

Well, your 2nd suggestion did work as far as when I delete something the recycle bin icon does show that there is something in it now but after emptying the recycle bin the icon still shows as if there is something in it unless I right click on an empty place on the desktop and select refresh then it shows that it is empty (which is just the reverse of the same problem).

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Again & Happy Holidays

I think that I may have fixed the problem ~ but I'm not sure why this procedure worked this time but was not working yesterday.

I right clicked on desktop and selected personalize and selected the change desktop icons. I clicked on the change icon and selected the empty icon and selected to change it and selected some other icon shown in the box that popped up. I then clicked on apply. I did the same for the full recycle bin icon.

I then closed the personalize box and simply completed the same procedure again, this time selecting the proper icons for the recycle bin, applied and closed all boxes. I then deleted something and it showed the recycle bin as having stuff in it and then clicked to empty and after emptying it shows as being empty.

I did this yesterday but it did not solve the problem and since nothing has changed I'm not sure why the procedure worked this time but it has. Now to just hope it continues to work properly.

Thanks Again and Have a Wonderful Holiday Season

    Lisa :)

Glad you all sorted Lisa :)

Im not too sure why it happens tbh, it's just one of the many Vista bugs that come up quite a lot.
