problems with sound

ok guys this is my problem . ive got a gateway pc and i just noticed that its only playing sounds from the pc and my emails but nothing from the internet . ive checked my setting on internet explorer and they are all correct. ive gone to internet explorer settings ,advance and checked multimedia and made sure sound was checked and it was. i dont know what else to do .(bty it was working fine before ) my sound card is a sb audigy (df80). ive tried to do a restore and went back as far as i could and no help ( i dont want to reformat if i dont have to ) i have also ran a diasnostic and repair disc and had the same results .

ok guys this is what ifound.i went into control panel,sounds and audiop devices ,under the first tabi noticed that i could not select device volume and noticed that there was audio divice so i went to the 3rd tab(audio )and selected sb audigy audio (df80) pressed apply and rechecked under the volume tab and nothing happened (still the same) so i reinstalled my sb audigy drivers ,restarted my comp. and rechecked and still the same ,but this time when i went to sounds and audio devices properties and went to audio and under sound playback under default devices nothing was selected ,so i selected sb audigy,pressed apply and ok ,reopened sounds and audio devives properties and now sb audigy audio appeared under the volume window and i was able to adjust the volume .so now i have sound in every thing including the internet(which i didnt have before )and an icon in the task bar. i hope my ventures trining to resolve my problem will help others with the same or similar problems :-D:wave
