Ok, I'm on my backup computer at the moment, so I can read and follow your instructions without loosing them every time I have to close windows or restart the computer.

The system I'm having problems with is a Win XP SP2 system.

I've ran a number of virus scans trying to get rid of this little blighter, including AVG, and Avast (U3 edition), and I haven't been able to squish the bastard yet.:tired

Spybot didn't give me a log file, and SAS said my system is clean, even though the thing was still annoying me, even as the utilities ran.

While it's been a few minutes since the last scan finished, and I haven't seen the problem creep back up yet, it's done that several times before in my own efforts to kill this bug.:cry

Obviously, I've very frustrated with this situation, as I've never had this kind of problem with a virus before, I've always been able to squish it myself. I've been fighting this thing for a week now, and you folks are my last stop before grabbing my system disks and blowing out the MBR.

    Please help?

It appears at this time that the cleaning procedure has been successful, as I haven't seen either popup from that virus for at least two hours.

    I am cautiously optimistic...:major

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You were only supposed to run the scans 1 time. You ran SAS 5 times and MBAM 3 times. Doing this prevents us from seeing things we need to see. If you ever need help again in the future, please only run the scans once and then attach the logs. I would like to see the below 3 logs. Please attach them:
    Code:
    "E:\Documents and Settings\Gandalf\Application Data\SUPERAntiSpyware.com\SUPERAntiSpyware\Logs\"
    supera~1.log Aug 18 2008 4180 "SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log - 08-18-2008 - 15-09-45.log"
    supera~2.log Aug 18 2008 20145 "SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log - 08-18-2008 - 16-51-30.log"
    "E:\Documents and Settings\Gandalf\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\"
    mbam-l~1.txt Aug 18 2008 3348 "mbam-log-08-18-2008 (23-55-23).txt"
Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {3753B44D-E02F-48B7-81B1-19A377BCCB63} - E:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\Icons\drawctp.dll
    O20 - AppInit_DLLs: qpnogj.dllxknohx.dll
    O23 - Service: Network Connection Manager (NetCM) - Unknown owner - E:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Speech\svchost.exe (file missing)

NOTE: HJT may popup an error about the AppInit_DLLs line. Ignore it and click OK to continue.

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

I thank you for your response, however, as stated previously, my system finally appears stable and clean.

However, I will offer no appologies for running a program several times before I even found your site, especially when I stated quite clearly that I had done quite a bit on my own to fight Vundo. There were other virus scanners run besides SAS, which I had heard about from a neighbor, the same neighbor who told me to try it and Spybot.

Next time I encounter a virus on my system, you had better believe that I'm going to do quite a few things on my own before I spend the time doing nothing but waiting for a reply on a message board. Please don't assume that this is going to be my first stop for a solution.:major

But is is not clean as my last fixed showed. However since you do not want our help, we are finished.
