I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop with Vista Ultimate. It has numerous problems. I go through the Malware removal READ ME and get to here

For Vista users - to turn off UAC ( UAC = User Account Control )

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
In Control Panel, click User Accounts.
In the User Accounts window, click User Accounts.
In the User Accounts tasks window, click Turn User Account Control on or off.
If UAC is currently configured in Admin Approval Mode, the User Account Control message appears. Click Continue.

When I get to Continue it goes back to the screen I was on and just sits there. There is no where else to go and I don't know if I've disabled it or not. There is no shield (other than the one for Windows Security Alerts). Nothing. What can I do to fix this? Please advise. Thanx.

This is what I got when I ran RogueKiller. I'm having trouble finding the logs on the other ones. Will post when I do. MGtools just goes into a loop repeatedly asking me to verify... I am assuming that is due to the problem in the initial post.

    • Try this:
    • Go to start > type in "cmd"
    • Click on cmd.exe > and paste in the following:

After you enable or disable UAC, you will have to reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.

Ok... everything worked... I think. Here are the logs... what am I missing?

    Not seeing any malware.

Before we continue I would like for you to use MSConfig to put this machine back into normal start up mode
    Log from Malware Bytes.

    What's in this folder? C:\Users\Ludie\AppData\Local\DpReportSvProve

    Doah!

Not sure what's in that folder... it has a subdirectory Picture then one in that called Thumbnail.

Well put it back into normal boot with MSConfig. I rebooted and it went through an intricate CHKDSK, then booted fine. All the problems I had are still screwed. Any ideas? What more do I do now?

    Sorry. It's not a malware issue. :(

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 4 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Definitely have to do clean up. If it shows no malware... I get no virus notice via AVG and nothing pops up with Spybot... what else could it be? What I really want to do is upgrade to Windows 7, but I don't want to carry over problems.

I don't know, you can ask about it in the software forum if you wish :)
