You may have heard me say it before, and I usually end up fixing the problem myself, but this time it's different. I've tried everything I know and to no avail.

What's happening is I'm connected to the internet. I can browse, download, whatever. I've even managed to get Guild Wars working for those of you who remember some of my other posts about trying to get games to work on this university network. The only problem is it cuts out. Like sometimes every couple of minutes. Though the signal constantly stays Very Good or even if I put the card right next to the window Excellent. So while browsing the IE goes into Work Offline mode. Sometimes the dial-up option comes up. As for Guild Wars, running around is always choppy and then right when I get to anything important will go to login screen telling me to check my connection. But like I said, signal always stays in the Good-Excellent areas.

Recently there was an outage and I thought it was a problem on my end. I reinstalled my Card only to find out that it was a University wide problem. Now it's back, but I'm still having the problem. When I contacted the network people here, they said the problem was resolved. Only thing I can think of is that it's a problem on my side and that I may have installed the card improperly. So I contacted Linksys because they are the makers of my card. They gave me a step by step instruction on how to uninstall and then reinstall the card. I followed them, but I'm still having the same problem. Here's the instructions Linksys gave me:

    1. Uninstall the Linksys software from Add/Remove Programs and unplug the adapter from the computer.
    2. Take the CD for the WUSB54G out of the computer and restart the computer.
    3. Plug the WUSB54G in, check if you get a 'Found New Hardware' message.
    4. Plug the CD for the WUSB54G in. If it prompts to install the software, cancel it.
    5. In the Found New Hardware window, select the option 'Install software from a specific location' and click Next.
A point to be noted is, if you have XP service pack2, you need to click 'No, Not this time' and then click Next, then select the option 'Install software from a specific location' and click Next.
    6. Select the 'Floppy / CD-ROM' option and click Next. The installation should be complete.
    7. After the installation, click Start->Run-> type 'services.msc' and click Ok. You'll get a Services window.
    8. In the window, check for Wireless Zero Configuration, right-click it and click Properties.
    9. Check if the Startup type is Automatic and the Service Status is Running. If not, make them so

Here is my specs so you can get a better understanding if possible:

    Wireless Card: WUSB54G v.4
    OS: Windows XP
    It's also a Desktop: eMachines T3065

(I think that's all you need to know, but just ask if you need more)

The network people put a work order in for this, but it's finals week and on Friday everyone goes home. I highly doubt anyone will get to my work order by then and I'm bringing my computer home for the holiday. I'd like to be able to get on properly by then, but I doubt that'll happen at this point. As always, any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
