Hello There. This is my first post so hope it is in the right place.
I was recommended to this forum to get some help! I recently bought a new Dell PC with windows 7 installed. I then downloaded Internet Explorer 8 but ended with IE9 for some reason. This does not seem compatible with Window 7 and I keep having to change to Firefox for some programmes which is a pain. I've tried to download IE8 but just keep getting IE9!

Can anyone help or advise please?

    Many thanks for your time

    Gina

Try to uninstall IE9 through control panel. That should revert the system to IE8, which is what it was supplied with. You didn't need to try to install it yourself.

Thank you for the advice but I can't even find it in the Control Panel!! Have looked down all the list of programmes installed and there is no sign of it.
Sorry to sound stupid but am still a bit of a newbie about some things.

    Anymore ideas please?:confused

In the left pane of Programs and Features is Turn Windows Features On or Off. See if you can find it there. Sorry can't be more definite as my understanding is that IE9 is still a beta product (i.e. not finished), so I have not tried to do what you did.

Another, and probably better way out of this would be to use System Restore to put the comp back to how it was before you tried to install IE8. Click Start and type sys in the box. You will see System Restore listed above, just double click it and follow the prompts.

Done that but it isn't listed there either!

Just have to keep looking. Many thanks for trying.

Oh! That could be a solution. Would I loose everything i have downloaded?

System Restore doesn't touch your personal files, though it would disable any new software installed after the point was created.

I will make that a priority tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

    Thanks again!

    Cashinjection,

IE8 is included in Windows7 and cannot be removed. However you may have clicked on the IE9 Beta download and downloaded it and installed it over your IE8. IE9 was designed to be more tightly integrated with Win7 and therefore should have fewer problems. However it is a “Beta” and may have some issues. If you have issues with your IE9 installation I invite you read this guide: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2409098 and it should help out. I would recommend you remove IE9 make sure your PC and Windows has all the latest updates and then Try downloading IE9 again.
But if you want to uninstall Internet Explorer altogether just follow these instructions (they apply to both Windows 7 and Windows Vista.)
1.Click the Start button , type Programs and Features in the search box, and then click View installed updates.
2.Right-click Windows Internet Explorer 9, click Uninstall, and then, when prompted, click Yes.
    3.Click one of the following:
•Restart now (to finish the process of uninstalling Internet Explorer 9, and restore the previous version of Internet Explorer).
•Restart later (to wait until you shut down or restart your computer).

Please let me know if you need any additional Help.

    Cheers,

    Rick
