Problems with Windows error messages on startup

    Hey,

    I'm not sure if the is malware related so I posted here.

    My Windows ME computer is coming up with a few error messages on startup. Also, the mouse and cdrom do not work. The messages are as follows :

    KB891711 has caused an error in MMSYSTEM.DLL
    Helpctr has caused an error in KERNEL33.DLL
    Spool32 has caused an error in MMSYSTEM.DLL

    Please help!

    Did you recently install anything; updates, drivers, etc?

    Yesterday my brother did some Microsoft updates for Internet explorer. He also said he deleted a lot of things (probably assumed they were junk).
