    i was given a emachines t1220
with a 1.2g intel celeron processor
    128m sdram
    20g h/d
    with windows xp
when i boot it up i get a blue screen that says process1_initialization_failed
windows has shut down to protect itself
it goes on about starting in safe mode but when i do i get the same message
at the bottom is the following
    stop: 0x0000006b ( 0xc000009c,0x00000002,0x00000000,0x00000000)
any ideas? is it worth messing with?
    thanks

    Hard drive failure.

Use the win xp cd and boot into the recovery console, then type chkdsk c: /r and let it run.

If chkdsk says that it found errors, think about getting a new hard drive.

If chkdsk freezes, get a tombstone and a plot for the harddrive graveyard.

I disagree, to be honest. Stop 0x6b is usually caused by Roxio GoBack.

Is that the case here? Do you have it installed?

Fair enough. Although I've seen my fair share of Stop errors, and rarely do the parameters match up, even though the cause is evident.

Microsoft error codes are fickle at best. I've had my fair share of workign with them to know that they are guidelines, not strict adhereing parameters.

BeefNug, welcome to Major Geeks. Please check the dates on a thread. It isn't a good idea to reply to a 4 year old thread.

Four years old or not, this was the only place that had the answer that fit for me with this problem. So I will thank the forum too.

Unfortunately for me, the chkdsk C: /r froze at 25%. It looks like I will have to replace my HD and my lost data. I sure hope the backup is current!rolleyes
