Hi there. I have posted a few threads in here about Motherboards and Processors but one concern that I do have is that I have had my current processor which is an Athlon XP 1.26Ghz in my computer for the last close to 5 years and I am starting to notice that it is not as efficient as it used to be.

In a couple of weeks I am going to have a new Mobo and Processor which is going to be a Sempron 1.8Ghz but I was told that it has a better speed which can exceed to 3Ghz if that makes any sense to anyone, lol.

I am just worried that my Processor is going to stop working soon because I have had a few Freezes within the last few days. Does anyone of think that my Processor can last the next couple of weeks since I won't have the money for my new Mobo and processor until then? Is there any way that I can use some kind of program that can tell me how much life I have left in my Processor? Any help will be an advantage.

Your CPU's main killer is heat........If you can keep temperatures within the required boundries, it is very unlikely that it will fail!
Your CPU will not fail slowly....meaning it will either work, or it wont.

You will know when it won't, as you will not be able to boot your PC at all.

I have an old P3 CPU (933Mhz) in one of my older rigs, and it has been going stong on 7 years now!

Your system freezes are most likely caused be another issue, whether it be software or hardware related!
The good news is that you can run some tests if you feel it necessary..

Check your CPU and Mobo temperatures in the bios if you dont have a probe, and run memtest (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Memtest86_d1247.html), just to make sure you dont have a possible faulty ram module.

Have you installed any new software, drivers etc, lately?
Do your system freeze-ups occur around the same time frame, or when executing the same data (programs etc)

Have you cleaned your system lately? (ie temp files, cookies etc)

Hi there Nitecrawler. My Mobo is equipped with a Thermal Shut down and it can reach temperature of 110 degrees celcius or 230 degrees farenheit which is not too bad considering the heat and humidity that we face here is Sydney. I have not seen P3 in a long time and it's good that it's still running. The reason why I was so worried is that I have a GA 7VKML Motherboard and I play games that are 4x/8x compatible, but my Mobo can only handle 4x. My graphics card is a Radeon 256Mb AGP and it feels to me that the mobo and processor can't handle the Radeon too much. This is why I need a mobo and processor that has the 8x speed. I can't even overclock as it causes hassles for the Mobo.

    Thanks heaps
