Hi! I have a Dell Inspiron N7110 laptop (from 2012) and I want to reinstall my Win7 operating system since it's VERY slow to boot up and other issues. Soooo, I have the original reinstall disc but when I looked on the bottom for the product key some of it is unreadable. I've tried SEVERAL programs and scripts to retrieve it but all of them give me the same key code that is nothing like the readable characters on the label. They aren't even close. So, why is this and will I end up w/a big mess once I try to reinstall Win7 using the product key that all these programs/scripts have given me? I tried to contact Microsoft, but since I have Win7, no luck. I've read that trying to contact Dell is also a waste of time.

Any suggestions/help will be GREATLY appreciated!

If you cant read the key, your only choice is trust the key finder program you have, and hope it works. You can buy keys very cheap online, how legit is anyone's guess, but I have bought a few on ebay, they worked. The specs on that PC appear good enough for windows 10, and if the win7 key you have is good, it will still activate win-10. The only issue is drivers maybe. Windows 10 drivers work on a lot of pc's that claim no support for 10.

Same here. Have bought keys on fleebay and 9 out of 10 have worked. They are cheap and usually sent via email almost immediately.

Thanx everyone! It's just very strange that all the programs/scripts I've used all have the SAME key but it is not even close to the key characters that I'm able to read off the label. I really didn't want Win-10 cuz I'm not real good at learning new OS's - took me 3 months to be comfortable (not swearing and drinking) from XP to Win-7! Hahahahaha!! As for drivers, I don't have a problem if I need to download/install new drivers.

Yes, the OEM key, manufactures didn't take the time to put the key in each computer, they'd make an image and drop it on every computer. The sticker made it legit & was there for you if you needed to reload. If you try the key you've recovered it will most likely not activate, who knows now days? Modern PCs have the key in the BIOS and will use it, and not a sticker on the PC.

Have you tried to use f12 on startup, and choose to recover to factory? I assume you have never deleted it, and your present system is working, despite virus.

Is this the laptop that you changed the motherboard?

I'm not sure the restore will work if the motherboard is a different one.
