Product Key Finder

  1. Hello Geeks,

I'm looking for my friends product key for his Windows 7 HP X64-Bit SP1 because the Sticker on the computer is worn out and not readable. I found a program on here, Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder, and used it on my computer to test the accuracy and it showed a key that did not correlate with the sticker. I was wondering if there is another program that can find the Product Key.

    @ Laura

Keyfinder programs don't find the right key on OEM pre-installed systems, only the key on the CoA sticker on the case will work. Same goes for Speccy.

That's why as soon as I get a new computer, I write down the version of Windows, the computer name and the serial number. I have several note cards full of serials because I've owned 14 computers over the years.

I use "Recovery Keys". It's a paid license, and it can retrieve just about any key for almost any software you can imagine.

It's paid for itself many times over...

I also place clear packing tape over the COA label for further protection.

The program is "Recover Keys", just in case anyone was looking into it.

The problem might be that this paid program finds the same OEM key that Magical Jelly Bean finds and can't be used to reinstall the OS. Since the key on the sticker was NOT used when the laptop was set up at the factory (done all the time with mass produced computers), no program will find the key on the sticker because it is not in the computer.

  9. So there is no getting the Product Key off this computer to do a fresh install of the correlating OS?

Have you looked for the Product Key on the Windows 7 DVD?

    If it's a legal copy, it's in a file named Product.ini.

  11. It's Genuine but it was pre-installed by the manufacturer. Where is the Product.ini located?

The Product Key is on the Windows 7 DVD.

I think I misunderstood :-o your original post by thinking you want to re-install the OS from disc. Why else do you need the Product Key?

Anyhow, you can also try MSKeyViewer Plus. It's portable and free.

I think I see the issue. The key he is retrieving is probably an SLP key. Either that, or someone has already installed Windows with an alternate key prior to this.

What is the make/model of the laptop in question, and is there a recovery partition?
