    Hey,

I have a quic question about some of the consumer software out there for removing spyware, viruses etc.. I help a lot of friends and family remove spyware and viruses from their computers. I was wondering if there was any professional software on the market that would help me speed up this task and make more efficient use of my time. The information you guys provide is an outstanding resource but I do this stuff for free and some if it takes up a tremendous amount of my time causing me to turn down my services for a lot of people. Pretty much I'm am just talking about some software that is very powerful and is supported well with frequent updates and definitions, something that may cover both spyware and virus removal. Anything you guys can suggest within a modest budget(100-200) would be great.

    Thanks,
    Jimmy D

If there was one single item that would actually work for all problems, we would be using it. They all find things others do not and they all take time to run. Virus, trojans, spyware, adware, dialers, etc are all under the malware umbrella but each of the programs we use for scanning cover various aspects.

As stated above, if any one item resolved most of the problems we would be using it and this forum would not be so busy. You will also find that even after running up to dozen different applications to find/fix a variety of problems that for many problems, manual procedures are still needed. Again if they were not, this forum would not be so busy.

All that said good programs (in no particular order):

    CounterSpy

    Ewido security suite

    Spy Sweeper

Also there is a lot of good free software you can use as in our READ ME FIRST sticky. You should also look at How to Protect yourself from malware!

You have to realize that if you buy licensed versions of any commercial software, that does not give you the right to use it on any other PCs. So if that is what you were thinking, there is no such thing. You will need to install trial versions or freeware on all the PC's you try to fix.

By the way, we do this for free too!
