profile problems in vista

I've been getting a persistent problem with my profile not loading in Vista. Instead I get a temporary profile loaded and an error message. It causes problems with various other programs that look for my profile; folding is a particular problem and I might need to re-install in a new profile. Can anyone help getting my old profile to load? I am tempted to buy Win7 but it seems an expensive option when mostly I've had no problems with Vista.

I've already checked out on the malware forum and my logs are clean.

I tried the fix you suggested but when I click the start button I don't get programs or administrative tools. I found administrative tools in the control panel but this didn't offer any of the suggestions in the fix. I have now found this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947242 and tried it but the problem profile would not delete. This maybe because it has a password which I'll try to get rid of.
