My problem started out with "Winfixer" pop ups they kept coming up and I started the cleaning process in "Read and Run me first" After completing Counterspy I began having the problem where the pop up warning "Explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows an error log is being created" My desktop would disappear except for my ATI Multimedia Toolbar and the program I was working in. I am posting this in Internet explorer but have no desktop. I attached the first 3 files before that happened and will have to reboot to post the second group of attachments. All throughout this process there is a little red icon in my toolbar that blinks and tells me that my sisyem is infected. Thanks for anyhelp I really don't want to reformat

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

You are running Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.3 which has not been in use for over two years. This is not what we gave you in the READ & RUN ME. Please uninstall this and install the correct version of Spybot as requested.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9

Now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Then install the current version of FireFox from: Mozilla Firefox

The below are are bad idea and they are infected! You need to delete them from your email folders.
    Personal Folders\RANDY\XP\XPCrack.zip[jbf.exe]
    Local Folders\RANDY\XP\XPCrack.zip[jbf.exe]

Continue by downloading a tools we will need - Pocket KillBox Save it to its own folder somewhere that you will be able to locate it later.

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {755bbd1a-aa59-456c-afeb-b4c42c4dcb6f} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {F3C7874A-2F92-47A8-9830-6CE3CDF3BA45} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CTDrive] "rundll32.exe " C:\WINNT\system32\drvjos.dll,startup
    O16 - DPF: {D6C22212-7AC1-48C8-8F5A-6DC9AE2A3BCD} - http://cashdeluxe.net/bho/loader.exe
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: winzdn32 - winzdn32.dll (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now run Pocket Killbox by doubleclicking on killbox.exe
Choose Tools > Delete Temp Files and click Delete Selected Temp Files.
Then after it deletes the files click the Exit (Save Settings) button.
NOTE: Pocket Killbox will only list the added files it is able to find on the system. So when you do the below, if some files do not show in the list after pasting them in, just continue.

    Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.
    • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\WINNT\system32\drvhuv.dll
    C:\WINNT\system32\drvpal.dll
    C:\WINNT\system32\drvzuc.dll
    C:\WINNT\system32\drvjos.dll
    • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
    • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
If you receive a PendingFileRenameOperations prompt, just click OK to continue (But please let me know if you receive this message!).

If Killbox does not reboot just reboot your PC yourself.

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. GetRunKey
    2. ShowNew
    3. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

Chaslang, thankyou for your response. Before i received your post I ran both VundoFix.exe and Smitrem.exe. Smitrem.exe seemed to fix the problem with the little red icon on my toolbar ( "security warning your computer may be infected with harmful or unwanted software"). The problem with my desktop disapearing seemed to be solve when I used task manager and I chose "new task run" and entered "control" ( I read that from a MS WIndows error message http://support.microsoft.com/kb/255758/EN-US . It gave me the pop up warning "Cannot find the file 1/idlist,:1561352. Anyway it seemed to fix that poroblem. I received your post this morning and after work I went through your procedures. The only problem I had was to copy the 4 files from system32 to my clipboard and paste them into PocketKillBx. I searched for them through the file icon next to the open window and was able to delete them that way. Attached are the three logs that you mentioned. Thanks again for all your help. I'll keep you informed on my situation

I see you are running VCOM Fix-It Utilities Professional 6. It contains an antivirus program! If you are going to keep Norton Antivirus installed you must makes sure you have disabled the antivirus feature withing VCOM Fix-It.

You logs are clean. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix you can delete the ComboFix.exe file and associated C:\combofix.txt log that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    5. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    6. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    7. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    8. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
