Program Icons all gone... now white with blue top

Hello everyone,
As you can see by the attachments that my program icons have all somehow changed to white with a blue top. When I double click on them to install I get that black window. If I wait for about 10 to 15 seconds the program will eventually start ti install.

Please help me.

Try to check your computer on viruses and spyware-adware.

Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Here's what I would do in your situation
Download and install Crapcleaner and Ad-Aware and M$ Tweakui for XP (all free).
Go Off Net
Run Ad-Aware for a full scan.
Run CrapCleaner to get all the unnecessary gunk out of the system.
Run Tweakui. navigate to repair Icons.
Reboot
Go to Run type MsConfig and close anything starting up except for Explorer and Systray.
Reboot
Defrag
That should do it ordinarily provided you were running an anti-vir program and a firewallwhen on net
If it does not solve the problem then more drastic measures may be necessary

Hi Robert...
Tried all that you suggested and nothing worked
I always have Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware running and connect to the internet via router...
All the icons were fine then poof they changed... I never use system restore so that's out of the question... I can't remember what I was doing before the change, sorry

 

Are they the Actual installed programs or just the instalation files for them ?

The icon is correct for an application or an installer or system executable.

What happens when you view the properties for one of these programs ?
Try right clicking it and see if it reports it as an application or an installer

you could try emptying your PREFETCH (Windows > Prefetch) folder then restarting.

 

PS, Please re-instate system restore it is invaluable. i can pretty much guarentee you wouldnt have had this problem for long if it was still operating.

 

Maybe one of your cracks there had a virus..LOL!!

yeh im afraid it looks that way too, a virus will hijack your .exe files and replace them with its self taking the original with it. as all your apps seem to be msdos associated which is wrong. try doing a virus scan and then see what happens
