Program stopped working

On my XP Pro machine I've been running a program called Calibre. After about 3 months it suddenly would not move files into the program. I could manipulate files already loaded fine, but could not load anything new.

I updated it, I uninstalled and reinstalled it, I uninstalled it, scoured the system free of leftover dirty diapers, ran still more anti-malware programs, rebooted a couple times and installed the latest version. Still it would not load files from my usual folder or anywhere else on the drive and now there were no files loaded into the program.

I installed it on my faster Win 7 Pro machine and it runs slowly but otherwise perfectly.

As far as I can find out, there is no separate version for 7 or XP. Any ideas what happened here?

BTDT. They're busy arguing over who to blame it on other than Calibre. It stirred up such a ruckus I had to change names on the forum.
