Programs are not ending when window is closed

    WinXP Pro SP3 - this is the same PC as in this thread with an Outlook issue. Anyway - I just discovered this problem: when I close Internet Explorer (or Outlook for that matter), the program window closes, but Internet Explorer (or Outlook) is still listed in the Task Manager. I'm not sure if this is happening with other programs besides IE and Outlook, but I'm going to look in to that too.....

    Does that also happen if you close the program using File | Exit instead of clicking the ⌧ on the upper-right?

    Does that also happen if you run the programs in Safe Mode (Outlook: outlook.exe /safe | Internet Explorer: iexplore.exe -extoff )?

    Hi dlb

    Does the same happen in Safe Mode (with networking)?

    Could try disabling all apps via MSconfig to test with no running 3rd party apps, then enable one at a time and reboot on each to see if a 3rd party app is causing this, maybe holding onto the processes for some reason, AntiVirus app would be my 1st suspect.
