    Thanks for looking...

In the processes tab of the Task Manager, 'conhost.exe' appears twice. I'm pretty sure that i've only ever seen it running just 1 time, but recently ive been checking it and it is coming up twice.

There are also a couple of other programmes that have appeared running twice including plugin container for Firefox, adobe flash player and MOBKbackup.exe (Mcafee online backup, which i don't even use). These dont always run twice, but when checking for conhost.exe i have seem them running twice.

Also, not sure if this is related or not, but every so often my cpu spikes. It runs at around 10% normally, but when it spikes, everything freezes for a second and the cpu goes up to around 60%. I can't work out what is making it spike, it seems to be random.

I have run virus scans which find nothing and used ccleaner and i gave it a really thorough dusting a few days back. But still the cpu spikes and conhost.exe runs twice.

I'm running on Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit.

Thats all the info i can think of, if you need to know anything else please ask.

When you first start Firefox, is the plugin-container running twice? Does it run twice after Firefox crashed?

Same question about Flash Player; what is the process name that is running twice?

When I first start up Firefox, no, the plugin container isn't running twice. And neither is the flash player. Though the deselecting issue does seem to be linked to Firefox, I've been using Chrome as my browser for over a week now and it hasn't deselected. Then I opened Firefox last night and it deselected straight away.

The cpu does however continue to spike even when I'm using Chrome.

I have been to the Malware forum and been through the 'read and run me first' sticky, but there was no Malware found.

Could this be a hardware problem? Either just the cpu or both?
