Programs shutting down (ex- firefox)

    I have tried your scanning and cleaning steps but my computer still once and a while starts to open and close folders and programs on its own. Cam anyone help with this?

    If you have run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal and you still have a problem, follow the steps below.


    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

    thanks, I just installed Zone labs to replace Windows firewall as your site recomended. Looks like a great program do you recommend there AV to, or should I stick with AVG.

    The only line in your HJT log that should be fixed are:

    Other than that, you are clean. Are you still having problems?
    Since you installed ZoneAlarm, make sure you have disable the WinXP SP2 built-in firewall.

    I will get ride of those files, but even after I installed Zone I had the same thing happen, something takes over and opens some folders and closes others then stops, all I can do is watch untill it stops, then all is ok.?? don't know ?

    Does it happen in safe mode? Does it happen if you have unplugged your cable that connects you to the internet?

    How often does it happen? If frequent enough, leave Task Manager open and see if you can catch what process runs when this happens.

    You could try running the below scanners that are also list in the Alternative Scan section of the READ ME FIRST:

    Bitdefender online scan
    RavAntivirus online scan <-- select Auto Clean then click Scan My PC
    TrojanScan online scan

    a-squared (a²) Free edition free but requires an email address to register
    avast! Virus Cleaner Tool

    I have not see it happen in safe mode, will try again. It does happen when cable is disconnected from internet. It happens three or four times a day. I will leave task manager on and see. I will try the other scans to. thanks
