I think i have an issue with Installshield. When i try to install programs nothing happens. This has been the issue when i tried to install Norton 360 and Comodo firewall. Macrovision website is of no help.....

What "security software" were you using before this started?

Programs still do not install. File names for each is setup.exe. One would think that either Installshield or Windows Installer would be the culprit or some switch in the registry. I just installed [re-installed] Zone Alarm no problem, but then there was no 'setup.exe' file.

Go to the link below and run # 94 (Windows Installer Fix) on the left-hand side.

    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

If that doesn't do it try the steps below:

Go to Start/Run and type in:
    msiexec /unregister [click ok]

    Then Start/Run and type in:
    msiexec /regserver [click ok]

Check under Services and make sure that Windows Installer Service is set to Manual.

Also, find Remote Procedure Call (RPC) and make sure it is started and running.

    Can you run "any" .exe?

I really cannot think of anything else.........other than maybe Spyware. Might not hurt to run a few of the programs in the Malware section, especially a couple of the online scans and see what happens there.

I'm thinking there is a registry issue. I have an 'export' of my registry from last month. Any risk 'importing' to see if this hleps?

Well, there is always a risk ;) but if you have a backup I would try it.

Create a restore point just in case.
