Project1 and virus noob questions

I did a forum search and read some of the posts and I intend to get hijack this (later...) but I have some questions that don't seem brought up elsewhere.
1. Is it malicious? Like, if I don't take care of this is it going to wipe my comp? Or is it just really irritating?
2. Now, I'm comp illiterate. All I know is "push button, make go" so excuse me if this sounds stupid, but if I burn a disk, will project1 like, move on to it?
Also, I did a virus scan, it came up with viruses. Thought "Wow that sucks, *quarentine*." Then I updated (norton corp. edition if that helps). Scanned again and found more. "Oh, good thing I updated." But then the auto scan thing popped up. Several times. Scanned again and found more. In under 24 hours, I have found 26 viruses, most of which are trojans. Downloaders and inforstealers commonly. Why are they flowing in? Is it going to stop? Is it the virus that let the floodgates open? Help is appreciated ^.^

This particular infection is fairly easy to remove, if you run the READ ME, the online scans should take care of this and once your complete with the scans attach your logs and we will cleanup any leftovers.

I read the removing quarentine thing from Norton, but it says to watch out for important files. But come of the files are in C:\WINDOWS\ or C:\WINDOWS\system32\ One of them is just in C. Should I not delete those? I'd hate to trash my c drive...

Please complete the steps listed in the READ ME. The online scans should remove this infection. Once your done attach the requested logs and we will go from there.
