Hi, guys! Gee, I guess I'm not smart enough to know whether this is a dumb question. I have an ASUS K8V mobo with Athlon 64 3000+. My HDD is a Seagate SATA 160GB. Computer is a year old. Am considering adding another HD in a RAID configuration. My question is; what is the difference, if any, between using the VIA-controlled setup or the Promise? If it matters, I've got 1.5GB of memory and the pwr supply is 450W. Thanks for any advice - - you guys are the greatest!

Just curious, but what do you use your computer for? You may not see any difference with a RAID configuration.

Also, the specific model of your motherboard will help.

Plan on doing some serious A/V editing & burning. Got a ton of VHS & Beta tapes, most of which are irreplaceable. As far as the mobo is concerned, it's an Asus K8V 1.12 revision. Bought last fall (2004). Bios version is 1001, if that helps. Thanks for your reply.
