I'm pretty much completely over Windows 10. I don't have much space on my Lenovo Ideapad, and most of my space is taken by windows. and I'm tired of the 'updates' that make things worse, the fact that you can't turn them off, and of course the unfixable "mouse drift".

Is it worth my time to go down to 8, or even 7?

You can downgrade to windows 8 which in turn updates to windows 8.1 through Microsoft store and is still supported untill 2023. Windows 7 no longer is supported and no more security updates in future will be released.

What is the exact model of Ideapad?
First you need to check if Windows 8.1 is supported on your particular model.

systeminfo.exe tells me the system model is 80R9, and the BIOS version is E4CN34WW.

i was forced to double the memory in my Hp laptop from 4GB's to 8GB's shortly after the Windows 10, version 20H2 upgrade because the performance was totally affected by the added bloat of the quality updates too,
it made the difference as i was seriously looking to replace it for a newer notebook if the added memory did not suffice.
