Hi all. I suspect the current in my house is highly unstable, as over the course of the few years i have been staying there, many of my electrical devices fail prematurely (teievision, printer, modem, filament bulbs, motherboards etc.) My old desktop monitor used to run mild jolts into my hand on contact.

Since I just bought a new laptop, I want to protect it from premature failure as a result of this.. I'm not even sure what I should be looking at - a surge protector, voltage regulator or something else entirely.. Moving is not an option.

    Kindly advise. THanks in advance.

Well won you should have a eletricion come out and inspect your wiring first That sounds a little Dangerous too me Some thing could catch fire from the little jolts of power. You could have a bad ground wire some where or some thing not connected right. If all of them items keep failing.Heck even a TV should last more then 10 years.

Now are you getting Socked bye all of the stuff that is pluged in

Voltage Regulator does seem too be a good idea and may be a surge protector as well

I use a Surge Protector on my TV stuff and Desktop.

Would not heart the laptop none.

May be some body should give some better advice but there is my two cents

    Hi Dim,

Most Laptop AC/DC adaptors and also Desktop PSUs today are rated from 90 VAC to 150 VAC for proper operation and some even higher ( about 250 VAC). Those are switching devices. You may not have a problem with those, but the suggestion to have an electrician check still may be a good idea.

    Good Luck, Jim
