PS/2 converter malfunctioning

Here is my problem. My laptop breaks. To fix this, I need to hook it up as a desktop machine. To do this, I need to plug in a mouse and keyboard, but they booth use PS/2 and my laptop only has 1 PS/2 port. I do have a PS/2 to Serial (1 PS/2 Female, 1 Serial Male) convertor, but whenever I try to plug it in it doesn't work. Any help?
