PS3 on VGA Monitor?

I know it's possible, but there's a long round about way of doing it making me get about 3 adapters. And then on top of that not being able to switch back to computer mode is a bit discouraging.

Let me explain...

I have a SyncMaster 712N and if you read it has VGA input only. Now I would like to be able to set up a way to not only play my PS3 on it which has Composite, S-Video, and HDMI output, but I would also like to be able to switch between my PS3 and computer on the fly. Like literally I'd like to be able to press a button on an adapter when I'm playing PS3 and it will switch my monitor to view whatever my computer is displaying. I hope I made that clear enough.

Anyway I think I've seen it before, but I'm not positive. I'm hoping someone has done something similar, which is why I'm asking.

See my old TV from back in the 80s just isn't cutting it for gaming anymore. Games which have small text are hard to read on the TV. And I'm not getting nearly good enough resolution to justify having a PS3.

Basically I'm straying away from buying either an HDTV or a new monitor that could simplify this a bit more. I just don't see the point in spending that kind of money when I could simply buy a few adapters or maybe one adapter at a fraction of the price. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
