Psu Has 14 Pins, Want 16 Pins For Gts 1660 Super

Hi all
the current PSU I have in a 12 year old rig is 14 pins and is currently supporting a GTX 670. I want to upgrade to GTX 1660 super.

The rig was made by a passed family member and has a monster set of hardware attached inside in a very large case.
PSu is powering at least:
3 x HDD
3 x Dvd drives
2 x Extra fans
digital heat and fan speed readout at front.
2x extra sets of USB equalling 7 at front.
A multi data reader for various types of data cards.

inside is a monster of cables and wires.

I think the PSU is over 800 but cant confirm because the PSU details is hidden by a side plate.

I have a 2x 6 pin and 1 x 2 pin.

After some research i can see that it might be possible use a molex adaptor. but most i see have two ends for a molex with 3 pins in each molex end feeding a 8 pin for GPU. I only have 1 molex end available in the rig and not two. does both the molex ends need to be connected?

Or i can see that the a 6 pin can be adapted to a 8 pin by one of these:

Which will give me the extra 2 pins.

Or as i also have one of the newer psu leads available inside the rig for this type connection. Is this better?

Not looking to replace PSU as i am uncertain if i can get a replacement to equal all the current required connections. so looking to modify to get extra pins to work the GPU.

Some forums say i can just use the 14 and not worry about the remaining two while some advise against it.

What should i do?
