PSU Voltages+Shutdown

My PC has been shutting down alot recently at random times (even if I am afk). When it shuts down i have to flip the switch at the back off the case and wait for a buzzing noise in the PSU to stop. So I assumed it was the PSU and started looking at the voltages and the negative ones were very....odd, and have no idea what it means because when I searched it only talked about the normal +ve voltages.

This is what I have :
VCoreA : 1.66V
+3.3V : 3.01V
+5V : 4.62V
+12V : 11.70V
-5V: 2.85V
-12V : 1.71V
+5VSB 3.18V
+VBAT 1.55V

 

Shinobi a general rule of thumb with PSU voltages is that they should not be out by more than .25 V, and as you have stated your 5V bus line is alot lower than that. I trust that your -12v : 1.71v is a typo. Hey the good news is that PSU's are cheap, I would swap out your old supply for a new one, with some extra Wattage for future expansion

 

The negative voltages are not wrong, been reading that they dont use the negative voltages so maybe its low because it's not being used? (I have no idea about electrical things )

 

Sorry shinobi that is not true certain components require -/Negative voltages. Most longtime Computer users (including myself) have a spare PSU on hand ALL the time. Hey they are cheap, and it gets rid of some of the guess work, and they are REALLY easy to swap out Honest couple of screws couple of connectors (which you mark prior to disconnect) and your done

Voltage is never low because it isn't used, remember voltage is like water pressure in a pipe!!!! Hope that helps you just a little shinobi and Good Luck and let us know what happens. BC
