    Hi,

Sorry I'm not following proper proceedure because I can't find the read first area before posting section.

I'm opperating an Asus G2S laptop.
    Core2 Duo
Nvidia Geforce 8600m GT 256 mg
    Windows Vista Home

    Virus protection:
Shaw Secure with all the latest updates and libarary.
    Also running Windows Defender
and Windows Firewall. Not sure if I'm if I should be or not but I am.

I ran my Shaw Secure and it's detecting a Virus PSW-Worm; C:\ProgramData\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery\WinAgentsd1.zip Action: FAILED when I tried to Disinfect and remove.

Can someone help me with this please.

Like I said earlier in my post I can't get to the "Read first" section to follow the rules therefore I'm sorry I"m not doing what I should be.

    Merry Christmas,

    GoodZ :-o

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
    Notes:
    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

    Hi,

Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas, mine was pretty good.

    OK back to my problem.

So I've tried to run online virus scanners, Nortons: total waste of time, Panda online scan... while running it, Shaw Secure popup a message then froze my computer stating a virus was detected on my computer called:

    win32.VB.bou

I've tried to locate this virus on Majorgeeks but alas.. I'm still in the dark and will continue to run all other app's that your try before posting section suggests. I well report back soon.

Oh what should I do if I can't run my Antivirus in Safemode?

After trying to run Shaw Secure (anti virus) in Safe mode it failed. Shaw wouldn't even start in safemode.

Have a safe and happy holidays all.

Hi everyone thanks so much for you help. Here's an update on my progress.

    report.

Norton online virus scan just tried to scan on it's own without me starting it. I used this scan a couple of days ago. It seemed to start when I started to download, or requesting to download CCleaner from Majorgeeks website link.

    Restarting in Safemode.

Running: CCleaner, Running SmartDefrag 1.03 and optimization. Tried to run Shawsecure (F-secure) but it only tried to start but wouldn't. rrrrr then I tried Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware in safemode to see if it worked and it did and so did CCleaner and Smart Defrage. Sorry if I wasn't suppose to do that but it's to late now. Any how I'm going to follow the rest of the instructions to the letter. I hope. lol

    Rebooting to windows.

Ok ran everything suggested however, combo fix was a real pain in the patootie. It wouldn't run got some error messages, one said it was not a valid win32 app, the other one said some files couldn't be loaded and told me to restart windows. Done that, then tried again but nothing but the same error messages. So I ignored the message and tried to open it again and it worked the third time starting it in a row. Then it froze I had to hold down the power button to reboot. nothing else would work. My clock was stuck on militairy time. I had to use a restore point to fix that problem. So now I'm going to run MGtools next... this is taking me all day off and on mostly on ...I'm getting tired. but I'll run this before I had to bed.

Ran MGtools it worked But I still have problems.

When I open Hotmail or some other webroswers I sometimes have to refresh the page to get it to load correctly or get it to connect at all. Hopefully I done everything asked correctly but I'm not sure.

    Please see attached.

I did manage to get a combofix log but I think it's corrupt.. I'll send in the next post.

    Thanks again, Happy New Years.

second post including Combofix. I included a couple of Jpegs I took while I was having trouble running Combofix. I know I wasn't suppose to touch the mouse or click on anything but things just weren't working. So I took the liberty.

    Cheers.

    Pre-Instructions:
    1. First, please disable any antivirus and/or antispy programs you have installed so they will not block this fix.
    2. Print out these instructions or save them to a text file so that you can operate with All Browser Windows CLOSED.

    Step 1:
Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
Again, make sure ALL browser windows are closed when you click FIX.

    Step 2:
Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Step 3:
    Default Security Settings

    To Default Security Settings:
    For Internet Explorer 6 users:
Click Start > Run > type inetcpl.cpl and press ENTER, when Internet Properties comes up navigate to the Security Tab and click Default Level for the following:
    • Internet
    • Local Intranet
    • Trusted Sites
    • Restricted Sites.
    Click OK to exit.

    For Internet Explorer 7 users:
Click Start > Run > type inetcpl.cpl and press ENTER, when Internet Properties comes up, navigate to the Security Tab and simply click the "Reset all zones to default level" button. Click OK to exit.

NOTE: If it's "grey" then it's already at the default level.
    Step 4:
Now run CCleaner to clean up cookies and temp files.

    Step 5:
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now.

[*]Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    [/LIST]

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Ok I've done what you told me to do but, I don't believe that combofix actually ran correctly. I get an error message that tells me to restart windows; I'll post the jpeg later. So I restart windows then do as told drag and drop on Combofix.exe I get a little meter that is turning green from left to right then it disappears and then nothing. I went to the location where the text file should be and I find what I believe to be an old combofix file. Will post it later when my lap top is hooked back up to the internet.

So now I've tried it again after about five minutes the program starts but I get another error message: will post a jpeg later.

    Version_08_12_21.03

Current date is 30/12/2008. ComboFix has expired
Click "Yes" to run in REDUCED FUNCTIONALITY mode
    Clicke "No" to exit.

    So I click YES.

Oh yes there is a blue pop up window behind the error message.
does this mean I should reinstall Combofix?

    After clicking Yes.

I hear a loud double beep from the motherboard then another window pops up.

    :Disclaimer of Warranty on Software..

maybe this is just informative I'm not sure what is now and what isn't any more. I've been working on this for almost three days straight now.

OK so I clicked on yes to continue the blue screen has some things on it, real technical eh, then the laptop shuts down on its own. it's taking for ever to shut down, been almost five minutes now. Could this be just combofix working? :confused

Ok it's been almost 45 minutes since I started Combofix and the laptop is still trying to shut down. Is it frozen or just combofix trying to fix my laptop?

    :cry

    just an update.

I just got home, gone for about two hours, and my laptop was still trying to shut down from Combofix, so I figure it's time I tried something else. I decided to do a hard shut down (holding down the power button) and that worked it shut down. I reboot the laptop and it starts normally with a black screen asking me to reboot in "Start windows normally" or "restore" I think thats what it said. Any how it gets to windows then continues with Combofix and it opens a txt file to show me its findings. So I continue with my last set of instructions from bjgarrick. Oh an by the way thanks for taking the time over Christmas to help me out. ;)

    so on with the tasks.

    I have another question:

I have a LAN, my desktop has some shared files and so does my laptop. Did I just infect the whole system with this darn virus? If so then I probably just infected my new Logitech Harmony one universal remote. rrr... God I hope not.

GoodZ ( not so good I guess):(

Not sure how this laptop is working but I guess I'll find out here shortly.

again bjgarrick Thanks so much for you help. I hope your holidays are going great.

Here's the files you asked for. FYI, while running MGtools.exe I got an error. I'll paste a jpeg I took of it. Hope this helps. I may have had Shaw Secure (F-Secure) running at the time so I stop the MGtool from running, turn off the F-Secure then ran the program again using Running as Admin.

Did you have AVG or Norton installed at one point? There seems to be some leftover folders from the two.

Now, we need to run Avenger again, just like you did before.
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will pop up for you to view when you login after reboot. Please attach this log to your next post.
Also, please let me know how things are running and if any problems remain.

yes I tried to run AVG in Safe mode to get rid of the virus but I don't think it worked very well and I tried to use Nortons ONline scan but like I said before it was a total waste of time. I also did uninstall both but I guess there were some folder/files left over.

I still have some web pages that don't load right the first time but I think it's a Internet explorer issue, not completely sure though.

    Will excute your instructions now.

Let's try to reset the settings for IE. Click Start > Run > type inetcpl.cpl and press ENTER, when Internet Options comes up navigate to the Security Tab. Once here, click on "Reset all zones to default level", if it's grey then everything is already default just proceed. Next, navigate to the Advanced Tab and click on "Restore Advaned Settings". Now click Apply and OK to exit.

Close your browser, run CCleaner and see if problem remains. If it does then follow the above once more, when Internet Options loads, select the Advanced Tab and click on "Reset..." and then "Reset" on the popup. This will default all IE settings. Exit IE and then re-launch the browser.

Let me know how things are running and if any problems remain after completing the above.

    You're Welcome!:)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware & Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources (except a little disk space) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have re-enabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    9. If you are running Windows Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, you need to follow the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Windows version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
