PTP FTP UK - China

Hey guys and girls,

im new to these forums, as i was recently introduced to it by my dad

now im home were trying to use an ftp server and browser to upload and download files from each others computers

He is in china
I'm in UK

weve already followed some great advice from this forum in reguards of how to do it, but when we come to getting a link up we just cant do it

weve got each others internet IP's, and can ping our own in the cmd prompt, but not each others

can any of you good fellows shed some light as to why we cant access each others computers but can find our own?

we are both working behind routers and have opened the ports we need (20 &21 mainly) but there seems to be nothing reguarding us not being able to see each other on the net or this forum

please help us

 

As far as pings go the answer is probably that just about every router is set to disregard or drop ping requests. Look into the router config and ensure that is not set.
Now, if I'm not mistaken China is a communist state that severely monitors and regulates it's internet content. I would be willing to bet that FTP ports are blocked several layers before it reaches your Dads gateway either incoming or outgoing. Just a guess though. a tracetr from both you and your Dad might lead to where the issue lies.

he does get very shit rates out there, but its not surprisin with all the ppl there u know? lol

for some reason weve been able to get pings through and the ftp server sorted, we have no idea whatsoever why the hell we couldnt in the first place but we dont really care as long as we can still transfer lol
