PURGE/WIPE/DEFRAG $MFT win xp

Hi All...I'm looking for something to purge/wipe/defrag the $mft in WINXP. I use an old, free copy of DIRSNOOP to purge records off the $mft. Anybody know of anything better? Personally, I'd like to wipe the old records, and then defrag the $mft. TIA!!

Please don't take offense at this but "wiping" the master file table sounds like, well, "oh I feel like re-formatting and re-installing today" or "lets make an expensive doorstop" time. Might want to take a look at this article though.

Puran Defrag Free Edition though, will defragment it for you when you choose to do a boot time defrag. CCleaner will wipe the free space on the drive.

Just realized something when looking in the "Settings" window for CCleaner. Look at the bottom of the attached thumbnail.

I really don't want to defrag/re-org the $MFT - I, too am afraid of the consequences - I don't think it's really worth the effort and potential of what could happen...But getting rid of the records and wiping the unused records seems worthwhile. I haven't looked at this in quite a while, and I do use DIRSNOOP to purge the records, but you need to buy DIRSNOOP to do the wipe of the freespace in the $MFT. However, you have saved me $39 by showing me what you found in CCLEANER... Which is exactly why I came to this forum!!
