I am not familiar with your particular PC but most HP desktops use the same format so when you take the side panel off you will see the hard drive (normally in a small cage at the top of the case, some are quick release and others are fixed with screws.
The normal way to remove it is from the front but some will come out of the side.
So unplug the cables and remove the cage then remove the screws holding the HDD in the cage and replace it with the new HDD reassembly is just the reverse and when it is installed replace the plugs.

Just as a thought if this is the only HDD in the PC you will need to store the files/folders and OS from your old drive to somewhere that you can access after the new installation or you will not be able to boot from the new HDD.

The best way is to transfer everything to the new drive before you install it.

    Hello,
Here is the page for your documentation. Download the Upgrading and Servicing Guide. How to remove the hard drive in on page 17.

Here are some pics of that case from Newegg if anyone has any ideas.

I think the general thought is to lift the cage out and then replace the drive. Is there no screw from the bottom of the case? (I see a gap between the floor of the case and the cage so there very well may not be one but you are saying it appears to be held to the bottom of the case.)

Actually, this page does show a similar cage. (The top pics are just showing examples of IDE/SATA connections on horizontal drives as examples--so scroll past them.)

The link to the Upgrading and Servicing guide I posted goes into detail on how to remove the cage. At least that's how it looked to me.

Sorry, I see that now tgell. :)
When I first glanced at page 17, I misread it and thought it was describing horizontal mount HD.

From what i can see from the photo is that the 2 screws on the left bottom of the pic are the retaining screws and sometimes there is a tab that you have to move to release the cage and that looks to be on the right side of the cage in the middle next to the motherboard.
