PuTTY?

I've got a computer I keep in the living room as a "public" computer of sorts, and recently I found the program "PuTTY" installed on it.

My sisters friends frequent the computer, and usually use it for MySpace, and whatnot so it's generally harmless. However, they recently installed "PuTTY" on the machine, and I can't imagine why.

They are fairly computer-savvy, and I'm sure if it's on my computer, they know what they're doing with it.

What does PuTTY allow them to do on the machine? Should I worried about this at all? Does it put my computer at risk at all, or any of my other computers on the network?

Putty is a Hyper Terminal replacement. It does SSH, Telnet, serial connections to enterprise type routers. Odd that they would install it. I don't see it being installed as a problem for your computer. It could perhaps be used for evil with TFTP or something, not sure there.

If you are not sure, just delete it.

what is the os of your comp (is it xp)? if you worried about your comp, and people installing stuff you don't want, why don't you just enable the guest acct, or create an acct with limited restrictions (so they won't be able to install programs). i fight this battle every few weeks to months, as relatives just leave their comps on, friends come over, they don't pay attention to them, and next thing i know i get a call every now and then, about their comp messing up, and they don't know where these programs came from. anyway, my .02 worth - g/l, sos
