    Hi.
I'm running Win 2K with free ver. of OnlineArmor firewall. I have to use BitDefender free edition and Microsoft's free virus removal program to remove PWS:Win32/Sinowal.gen!M repeatedly. Yes I should buy a good virus protection program but I don't know if that would solve the problem, because it apparently regenerates itself every time the computer is started up. Both virus removal programs state PWS:Win32/Sinowal.gen!M has been removed or deleted and to restart, when you do so the malware is back.

Please tell me if I can solve this problem and what protective software I can procure or buy to keep this from happening.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide!

If you really have a Sinowal infection (and that remains to be seen), you will have to run fixmbr from the Recovery Console to fix the Master Boot Record. Running your scanners will not fix it.

You can read the below to help you do this:

Description of the Windows 2000 Recovery Console
