If you have a smart phone with a built-in led/laser scanner, heads up:

QR Codes (the weird looking square codes starting to appear in ads and on products; sample image below) are the latest weapon scammers are using to infest your phone with malware, perform ID theft and possibly add extra charges to your cell phone bill.

This story is worth reading. In a nutshell, it states QR codes have the same dangers as PC downloads: If you're not positive it's from a trusted source, don't scan it and/or don't follow any links it offers.

Really good heads up gman as these codes are becoming ever present on a vast majority of products these days and while common products are legit in their QR codes, it can make us complacent in just scanning any old QR code and thats the emerging problem, a bit like being click happy on the PC at any old popup!
