Is there already a thread on this one? I'm getting an error trying to run quake 3 arena on a dell dimension l500r, win98 .. here is a screen shot. Actually I've had it on another similar 98 box. Anyway - anyone know how to fix it? Its a screenshot I pasted into wordpad and zipped.

Also here is the display driver I'm using: Intel 82810E Graphics Controller
Maybe there is a better driver? Ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jim

I'm sorry. The thread title is wrong. It should be Windows 98, not XP

jf38081, you need to make sure that you have an OpenGL compliant video card, and the latest video card drivers installed.

The computer use to run it, before we reformatted. It still has all the same hardware. Is there a way to check all the open gl settings? maybe i need to install open gl or upgrade something.

    regards
    Jim

Then it's more than likely the video card drivers as I posted.

If you don't know what your card is, download EVEREST.

I can try everest, but the video is integrated and I'm using the drivers that dell recommends. As I said in posts 1 and 2, its a dimension l500r using the "Intel 82810E Graphics Controller" display driver.

    HERE are the drivers.

However, you'll probably find they are the same as what XP installs, but it's worth a try.

If that fails, post the Everest log as an attachment. (Don't copy and paste)

I've installed the drivers you recommend. I also tried to run the glsetup.exe program, but it says that it doesn't support my hardware. Quake 3 is still giving the same error in the first post. Here's the Everst log file.. Hope it helps. It seems like I need to installed OpenGL on the computer or something. Any more ideas?

Better late than never, this thread is over a month old!

Anyway, you don't need to worry about OpenGL drivers, they are included in the video card/chip driver package.

Try reinstalling the game (completely uninstall it first), then see if there are any official game patches.

Also, check DirectX Diagnostic Tool (start, run and type in dxdiag then OK).

the solution to your problem is - the driver you are using does not support the opengl that quake 3 uses. Your hardware can, but the driver does not.
You need to download an OEM or manufacturers driver and try again. Keep trying till you find one that works. You don't need to install the OpenGL API, that will not help you.

I found a link that might help. Still trying to find the best drivers.
