Brand new computer, < 1 week old.

    Installed "Flashget" download manager.

Currently running Adsubtract, with pop up blocker. Also using built in blockers for Netscape and IE. (I do not use IE however)

When using Flashget, I get IE pop-ups, even when I have a Netscape window open.

An IE window opens, but it is blank, but it does show the title of the site or advertisement. Under that the information bar says "To help protect your security, IE has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer..click here for options" So in essence, the popup is blocked, or at least all the info is.

I have since went into IE > Tools > Pop Up Blocker> Settings>

I've selected the high (block all pop ups)

and DESELECTED "Play a sound when a pop up is blocked"
"Show information bar when a pop up is blocked"

Any ideas why I am still getting a pop up with the information bar, even though I deselected the "show information bar" ?

I've run adaware and Spybot, but there is nothing there... I am almost 100% sure it is coming from Flashget, because that is when they started appearing.

Flashget is classified as Adware, though I think the ads are supposed to be contained only within the program itself, not IE popups. If you need a download manager, there are a few freeware options available. Some can be downloaded from MG. See the link below:

Alternatively, you can pay to register Flashget and the ads generated by the program will go away.

I use Flashget, but a downsize is random popups. It is classified by some as spyware, but its only ad cookies and harmless.

So basically, Flashget is overriding the settings I selected?
