As a non-user of AOL, and a proud staunch hater of AOL, I know next to nothing about it. However- I have a lady who needs me to copy the AOL Favorites from one PC to another. Is this just a matter of copying a file from an AOL folder, or is there a bunch of BS exporting and importing needed? The little research I've done tells me that it's not as easy as it should be.

AOL uses IE, check the IE favorites on the original PC as they may be the same.

Most AOL stuff is held serverside (in all recent versions), once the AOL user logs into AOL on the new PC, it should be the same as the old.

You may need to copy the PFC folder from the old PC and import it on the new.

    Checkout AOL help too.

All the research I've done on this has shown me how to use an 'import/export' feature in AOL to do this. I know the favorites in question here are NOT in the IE favorites. I had already copied the IE favorites to a CD for this lady and she said that those weren't the favorites she needed. She also said the faves are not stored online in her AOL account. The main issue is that she bought a new PC. Her old laptop OS is totally corrupt and barely runs. By removing the hard drive and hooking it up via USB, I was able to migrate all her music, pictures, documents, etc. It wasn't until a few days after this procedure that she realized her AOL favorites did not get moved over with the IE favorites. So, since the original PC has a screwed up OS, using the AOL export tool is probably not going to work, but I guess I can try. I was just hoping that I could simply hook up the hard drive via USB for a 2nd time, and then just copy a folder in to the AOL directory on the new PC. Maybe I can use the AOL on the new PC to import from the old hard drive if it's connected via USB???

You could try pulling the entire AOL folder across from the Program Files of the old harddrive and dropping them into a new location on your clients current machine. Startup the old AOL and have your client login, try exporting from there.

@ novice: THANKS!! That got the favorites exported. So I'm going to email the file to her and hopefully she can figure out how to import it in to her current AOL setup. I've been looking for some CLEAR and EASY info on importing the saved file, but I haven't found anything that's noob-proof. I've found plenty of stuff that we can understand, but not much for the noob sect.
