Question about codecs

A friend of mine was having some codec issues so we decided to uninstall his codec pack (KLite Mega) and his DivX pack (he has the paid version; more info here). He just downloaded the latest KLite Mega Pack (v4.3.1) and started the install, but then noticed that by default, KLite uses ffdshow filters for DivX, but also has the DivX 6.8.5 option. I was thinking that since he has the full paid DivX bundle, he should just uncheck all the DivX options from the KLite install. Is this a good idea? If he uses the default ffdshow filters and installs his DivX bundle, wouldn't there be some 'confusion' as to which DivX filter is to be used?

    Thanks....

Problem solved. :) I suggested that he install the DivX bundle first, which he did. When the Klite Mega Pack was installed, it recognized the DivX bundle and asked if he wanted to keep and continue use of DivX, or if he wanted it removed to be replaced by Klite's compatible or DivX equivalent, and he said "Keep the DivX bundle; I do NOT want it removed". Everything worked out fine.... yippee! :dancer

Codecs can be a big-time PITA if they're installed without any thought about conflicts and/or existing codecs....
