Question about Movie Making software

Hi-

I currently use Windows Movie Maker to make videos from pictures, songs, as well as video and audio clips. I want to make a wedding/engagement video for a friend with these types of files but I was wondering if there is a free program that is better or slightly more advanced with more options for transitions and such other than Windows Movie Maker. I am pretty good with computers and I have a PC with Windows XP.

So, can anyone recommend a free program that would be better to use than Windows Movie Maker? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

 

Thanks for your suggestion of the Avid Free DV software. I downloaded it, however, I get an error when I try to launch the program.

The message:
Exception: ADM_DSOUND_MIXER_OPEN_ERROR

comes up every time and automatically shuts down the program. Do you know what's wrong or how to fix it? Thanks
