Question about running scans from XP limited account

    Hello,

Every once in a while I run through the steps of your "READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide" as an extra thorough check to make sure no malware has gotten past my defenses. Unless I find something, I don't worry about posting my logs so I don't trouble you unnecessarily.

This time, I was thinking of running the scans on a Windows XP computer from a Limited Account that I do all my web surfing in. The instructions say:

"Some programs (like MGtools mentioned later and maybe other tools too) may not run on restricted user accounts so you may need to temporarily change the user account to an admin type account and then complete the scans."

I've actually never tried this before. If I switch a Limited Account to an admin account, run my scans, and then switch it back, could this cause any problems? If I had an infection, I'd have no choice but to risk it, but if I did this on a regular basis every couple of months, do you think that would likely cause any problems for my computer or programs?

I've got Windows XP, and Vista is running on another computer. I have Trillian, Skype, drivers, and my AV running on startup.

I personally don't think it would do any harm, as long as anything you install is available for all users so that when you come out of admin mode it is still available if you wish it to be.
