I just tried to login to my creditcard accout. Got a message saying since I was using a different computer, they would need to reactivate me, etc, and wanted to give me a new code.

I closed it out and am on here asking questions.
This is the same computer I always use. Could this be a new type of virus trying to get into my creditcard?

Or am I paranoid? To me I am not as this isn't a different computer. Is the same one I have used for months.
    Thanks for any ideas.

Just to be safe, I would call them on a land line and ask.

    That sounds VERY suspicious.

Good call on that one, especially since your bank has never done anything like that before. I'd almost definitely say that it's some idiot trying to steal your credit card number, since no bank I've ever heard of has ever done anything like that. Until you know definitively, definitely don't be trying to reactivate anything. I myself have already had my identity stolen once, and would hate for someone else to have the same thing happen to them.

are you sure that you or your husband did not just drop in to check your account from a laptop or from another place? I get these all the time from certain accounts I have that I visited from our laptop when out in california taking care of my dad. Seems that sites are getting tighter regarding security and changing log in criteria. I have never encountered a problem performing the requested action. If you give them your e-mail address you will be sent an acvtivation code that you enter and all is well. They are not asking for any information relative to your accounts, just trying to make sure it is really you. If they were asking for information and details about your account then I would worry. Once you enter the code your login will continue to your account details as it normally does. I still have 2 accounts that continually ask for me to receive an e-mail activation code every time I login to access my accounts even tho I am now back at home on the computer that I originally opened up the account with because I sometimes am too lazy to use just our desktop and use the laptop. Hope this helps.

Maybe they did some maintenance on their end? I have had this same situation with my online banking. As a safety you can be sure to go to the site by typing it in. Have you deleted your cookies recently? That is another possible reason.

Thanks for the input everyone. I am not sure why it happened, but ended up being nothing. I called them, they could not give me a good reason either (I think they still think I used a different computer) I did have to go thru the steps.
But, anyways, it was no scam.
Better to be careful, though. They did thank me for calling to ask.

Whatever the call cost (if anything) ----- it was worth it to check on it.

    Smart girl.
