just a quick one. Does windows defender prevent spyware from infecting your computer. Its just i notive it is in the check for spyware section of free pics not in the protect section. I was sure it Protected it from infecting so I got rid of spywareblaster. Should I reinstall it?

Windows Defender does help stop spyware effectively, and its your choice cause both of them are just as effective.

I have to disagree here. The 2 programs each have different definition databases. Therefore, it WILL help to keep both programs, which in essence will prevent more spyware. :)

And Spyware Blaster is only 3.06MB in size, so it hardly takes up any space.

i'll re install it just to be safe then, but will I have any issues running both at the same time????

No there won't be a conflict. Windows Defender runs as a service, but Spware Blaster does not so it will be fine.

Are you just trying to build up your protection? If so, what are you using?

I have adaware SE ,avast AV, Zone Alarm Free, and windows defender. Only real reason I D/L''d windows defender was so I could run the auto scan daily, When I installed windows defender I uninsalled spyware blaster cause I thought they might conflict with each other. Do I really need the both of them with all the other protection im running. Thought I might get rid of windows defender reinstall spyware blaster and just run a manual scan with adaware SE each day.

Dude!!! What are you saying? That's horrible advice!!! grrrrrrrrr (ranting over)

Spyware Doctor is so deceptive. Therefore, should not be trusted...much less with security.

@mgpower0 - No you don't need to run both if you are a fairly safe surfer. But, using both will provide more protection. I don't use both. I use Windows Defender as an on demand scanner because the bugs in it annoy the hell out of me.

But I also use Tea Timer in Spy Bot which runs as a service, and shouldn't be run with Windows Defender.

Personal preference is that I perfer to run Tea Timer as a service rather than Windows Defender. Not suggested for n00bs.

Please don't waste your money. There is no need to. I have never had an infection on this PC, and I only use freeware.

Do you use CCleaner? It picks up a lot of crap as well.
