So my parental-in-laws had computer problems both on laptop & desktop computers my father in law took his laptop into staples they ran tests and they said that it's the hard drive... So they swapped it out, when they asked what he wanted on the new hard drive the store actually recommended Windows 7... The reason for the recommendation is this:

"Staples claims that windows 8 (etc) is harder on ones computer than windows 7 which can wear out hardware faster than windows 7 and that windows 8 can cause hardware issues and malfunctions with printers and other devices"

is there any truth to this or is Staples just blowing smoke outta there *** ?
For the last little while my father in law ran windows 8/81 on his laptop and desktop without issues now he's unsure if he wants to go back to windows 8/81 because of what they said...

Please leave all personal bashing in regards to what you prefer windows 7 or win8 out of this, I know each user has his/her own thoughts in regards to the systems as do I... I personally like both for various reasons...

    Thanks in advance
    Kennie

It's pure, unadulterated bunk. Staples had some other reason for recommending 7 though I have no idea what their motive might be.

Thanks Earthling for your answer, I honestly thought it would be exactly that but I wanted to see if perhaps there was some truth to it.

Think about this, if that were true, Staples would be happy to install 8 because they'd get more business as the hardware wore out or malfunctioned and people would have to buy new gear to replace the worn out hard drives, printer, memory or whatever malfunctioned.

Well, I have to say, that's the first I've ever heard anyone say that they were told that by one of those places. If your FIL hadn't been on the receiving end of such nonsense, I'd say it was pretty humorous that a 'tech' would say that.

I have to think maybe your FIL heard it wrong since he mentioned "hardware issues and malfunctions with printers and other devices", which sounds to me like the tech maybe was talking about driver incompatibility, which may have been true in the very beginning of Win 8, but not anymore.
