    hello, i have just gotten my computer back from a repair shop and they gave me a new video card and everything. I got these things on the computer so i would be able to play everquest2. When i got it back, it worked perfectly for 2 days.. no lag, no lock ups or anything. I've posted many places and refuse to take it back to the shop, since i will give them 100 dollars an hour for perhaps 5minutes of work. My problem is... whenever i'm playing eq2, it freezes up randomly.. the entire computer freezes.. ctrl alt delete has no effect on it, so i am obligated to reset it manually. It freezes up like this anywhere from 2 seconds to 30 seconds in the game.

    I have tried many things to fix the problem.. and none of them have helped it. One suggestion was running a full file scan of the downloads, that didn't work. Another suggestion was that it was a heat related issue, i know have major fans pointed at the motherboard and video card, that has not worked. Another suggestion was that it was a bios related issue and i may have to update the bios, i'm not a complete expert on computers so i have no idea if i've updated them or not... my computer is also EXTREMLY slow when on the windows loading screen. It takes about 10 or so minutes to get to the desktop when restarting the computer.

    My computer info is:

    Microsoft Windows XP
    Home Edition
    Version 2002
    Service Pack 1
    Gateway, Inc.
    Intel(R)
    Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.06GHz
    3.06GHz
    1.00 GB of RAM
    ATI 9600 XT
    Radeon 9600
    motherboard = 00ASUSP4P800SE
    88.2 GB free memory.

    The computer video card and everything i have verified to be compatable with eq2. If anyone has any info that could help me, i'd really appreciate it. )

    sounds like the clutz that fixed your pc up didnt actually remove your old video card drivers ; what was your old 3d card? download driver cleaner 3.x ; if it was ATI remove all the ati video/display drivers from the list, reboot, and download them new ones from www.ati.com ; if it was nvidia video card, do the same process as above ((you may need to reinstall your system to get these drivers out when switching between mfg)). If you think it may be an overheating issue download rivatuner and go to the hardware monotoring feature check out the temp readings and post back.

    If after removing the old drivers + installing the new ones you still get lockups; it may be time to reinstall your wxp, if THAT doesnt work
