Question for Gimp 2.6

XP Pro, SP, current updates, ZA, A^2, Lenovo T60p Dual CPU - 2.1 ghz, 3 Gb computer memory, 3 cent operator memory

I've been using Gimp 2.6 for several days now with "some" success in minor categories, but memorizing pages of rules is impossible, my memory being fabricated from chicken wire. I'm limited to what I can do with constant look-ups.

But I have an "is it possible" question that I'd have not the slightest clue how to find in ANY kind of manual.

I suppose everyone is familiar with the "jagged edge" effect found on curves or even straight slanted lines as the image comes from a camera. Some of these are rather "spread out," making an actual edge somewhat broad and indistinct, often to what seems like an unnecessary degree.

Blurring and/or sharpening have very little useful effect on these jagged edges.

Is there any kind of algorithm or process that can follow such edges and reduce the jaggedness? For greatest effectiveness the resolution would have to be increased (1 pixel made into 4, etc.), but I'm talking about some effects I have dealt with in which the jaggedness can be manually reduced by individual pixel manipulation. So I figure if I can do it manually surely a computer can do it.

This might be related to the feature that will straighten a line that is crooked, I don't know for sure.

Am I making any sense at all to anyone?
