An Athlon II cpu is a mutli-core cpu so 2 cores are active anyway. Are you unlocking a 3rd core?

um yes its a dual Core only i went cheap lol 68dollars cheap.don't think there is a third I think in the beging the 2nd core was locked my MSI MOB 870A-G54 was able too unlock it and i in-creased the cpus speed too 3.65 it was only 3.25GHZ computer stayed around 80F the whole time i have two intake fans and a out take fan its a big one.Is it best too keep is locked or unlocked.I really don't think it matter much either way it was just a question. But then again when i unlocked the 2nd core i was able too overclock the Cpu and i turned it back too the normal defaults in the BIOS it went back too the 3.25ghz and the two cores are unlocked but i don't have them OC I did not see much of a in prove meant on the speed.I had too adjust the FSB too OC i all so did that through the Bios .Any thoughts on what i should do should i keep from OC and just leave the the two cores unlocked.

If you're not seeing a huge improvement in speed, I would err on the side of caution and turn off the overclocking.

Although the current generation of motherboards make overclocking easier, you still run an increased risk of crashes and/or overheating versus running in stock mode.

Core unlocking/locking is purely for an extreme OC benchmark feature, i.e. a single "I did this" run but has no benefits for a 24/7 PC. Leave them unlocked and enjoy the benefits of all the cores you have unless you want to aim for some form of "status".

I have a quad core and it is brilliant when used in that manner.

If you want a single core then put one in.......it really is about "bragging rights" only such a feature!
